What is PR?

Permanent Residence (PR) status enables an individual to live in Singapore indefinitely. A Re-Entry Permit is required for a PR to travel abroad and return to Singapore while maintaining their PR status.

You may qualify for Singapore Permanent Residency (PR) if you belong to one of these categories:

  • Holder of an Employment Pass (EP), S Pass, Personalised Employment Pass (PEP), or EntrePass, currently employed in Singapore. You can include your spouse and unmarried children under 21 in your application.
  • Spouse of a Singapore citizen or Singapore PR.
  • Unmarried child under 21, born within a legal marriage to, or legally adopted by, a Singapore citizen or PR.
  • Student who has lived in Singapore for over two years at the time of application and has passed at least one national exam (e.g., PSLE or GCE ‘N’/’O’/’A’ levels) or is enrolled in the Integrated Programme (IP).
  • Elderly parent of a Singapore citizen.

No, you do not need employer sponsorship to apply for Permanent Residency in Singapore.

A PR can reside in Singapore indefinitely as long as they do not leave the country.

If a PR plans to travel abroad, they must obtain a valid Re-Entry Permit (REP) to maintain their PR status; otherwise, their PR status will be lost.

Typically, PR applications are processed within about six months if all required documents are provided. However, more complex cases may take longer than six months to process.

There’s no better time than now to apply for Singapore Permanent Residency (SPR). Immigration laws have become increasingly strict, making it harder for foreigners to obtain PR. Since 2009, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has tightened policies to prevent foreigners from securing PR solely for its benefits. As stricter regulations may be introduced in the future, it’s advisable to apply for Singapore PR as soon as possible.

There is no limit to the number of times you may apply for PR.
